Healthcare Leader: Primary Care Gynaecology Service

Aug 7, 2023

Healthcare Leader has recently shared the work we’ve been doing with NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, NHS Arden & GEM CSU and fellow GP Federations across the System to deliver a Primary Care Gynaecology Service (PCGS) for patients. The new service is reducing waiting times for routine gynaecology treatment and support, meaning patients are being treated more quickly within local community settings and secondary care teams can focus on more complex and urgent cases. We have had positive feedback so far:

“Excellent service… go through everything with you, feel at ease”

“I came away with a much greater understanding of my menopause experience…”

“Felt very comfortable and confident that any issues will be sorted. Doctor was very easy to convey my concerns to and listened to my concerns. Overall I was very happy with my appointment outcome and experience.”

“Thankyou for this service. It was gratefully received. The doctor and nurse were both amazing. Knew what they were doing, and very kind and caring…”

Face to face clinics went live in four locations in August 2022, with over 300 patients seen by the PCGS in phase one. The average wait time for a first appointment with the service was 39 days once transferred to the PCGS. Furthermore, over 120 patients within the first four weeks of launching phase two of the project (May 2023) were referred directly into the service from GP practices, with secondary care also using the electronic referral system to refer triaged patients into the PCGS when appropriate.

We’d like to thank Healthcare Leader for circulating the progress of the PCGS.
