Dr Michael Cordner has decided to step down from his role as SWGP director to give him more time to focus on other activities. We are extremely sorry to see Mike leave the Board, but the good news is that this isn’t goodbye – Mike will continue to support us on some SWGP projects.

As things currently stand, we will not be replacing Mike’s role on the Board. Instead, Dr Cristina Ramos will become our principal Medical Director, with Dr Oliver Rintoul-Hoad leading on much of Mike’s clinical work for the Federation. This will include being SWGP’s organisational safeguarding lead, infection prevention control lead and attending our Clinical Governance meetings, Policy Review Group etc.

Chair, Cristina Ramos, said:

“I am very sorry to see Mike leave his role as Medical Director – his input has been extremely valuable, as. Has his support for the organisation as a whole. On behalf of everyone at SWGP, I would like to thank Mike for his considerable contribution to SWGP over the past four years – and for agreeing to continue to support some of our project work in the future.”

Mike joined SWGP Board in September 2022 and has held the statutory role of Medical Director for most/all of that time. Working with our Quality and Compliance Lead, Mike has overseen considerable improvements in our approach to managing quality and compliance and helped establish some of our most successful clinical services. We will miss his insight and clinical expertise but look forward to continuing to work together on a project basis.
