Resilience team
In recognition of the significant workload pressures facing practices, we provide qualified, insured resilience services to support member practices during holiday or sickness absence and enable staff to attend training.
All staff in our resilience team complete the SWGP induction and are trained to deliver defined services within their area, making it easier for practices to book cover with confidence and provide a consistent service to their patients.
This support includes:
- Health Care Assistants: a bookable clinical service to cover services that a practice already provides during staff shortages.
- Phlebotomists: a flexible and convenient service to help ensure patients have consistent access to blood testing at their local practice.
- Nurses: fully trained to support with a range of services including blood pressure checks, cervical smears, contraception reviews (COC & POP), dressings, vaccinations (including childhood vaccinations), and clip/suture removal.
- Reception and administrative support: remote and on-site services which cover most aspects of these roles including answering calls, handling patient queries, repeat prescription ordering, clinical letter coding, medical notes summarising and QOF call and recall.
- Our resilience secretarial support handles a range of administrative tasks including typing and processing referrals, updating patient records, and liaising with hospitals and patients.
- Our resilience team has also been deployed to support practices tackle unexpected challenges such as the backlog created by the global Crowdstrike IT outage. Read our case study.
- Primary care surge: In partnership with Integrated Primary Care, practices can also book remote and face to face GP capacity to cover workload peaks or staff shortages.
Did you know, during the 2024-25 financial year, we provided 13,478 hours of resilience support.

Using our online Practice Resource Centre, member practices can access a range of tools to support them in developing or refining good processes for managing their safety and quality.

- Feedback templates including staff survey, patient feedback, compliment and complaints forms
- Incident reporting guidance
- Risk register template
- Policy management tracker template

- Annual audit programme template with process-specific templates
We also run regular ‘lunch and learn’ sessions for practices to walk participants through the tools and templates we provide, and to share best practice.
