In late 2015 SWGP bid for and were successfully awarded a contract from Health Education England to deliver a Community Education Provider Network (CEPN).

CEPNs are collaborative networks of service and education providers working together across a geographic footprint with the shared purpose of creating the right workforce to support the delivery of population health outcomes.

Our objectives include to engage with primary, secondary, community care and higher education institutes. We will scope and consider our current workforce whilst planning for the future. We will promote integrated learning and transformational workforce for the future.

Our initial work focusses on increasing the numbers of nurse mentors and thus student nurses in South Warwickshire, promoting apprentices in general practice and supporting our existing nurse workforce with revalidation.

The 11 CEPNs across the West Midlands have agreed to share the following vision as we build our workforce for our local needs.

Developing a skilled, compassionate and effective modern primary healthcare workforce: meeting the needs of local populations and delivering high quality patient services, for now and for the future through innovative education and collaborative networks

– ambitious, collaborative, people focused, whole system approach
